In the world you are entering, there is a Federation. There is an Enterprise. There is even a Captain Kirk.
But in this world, they are not as you know them.
George Lowther, 27, is the captain of the pirate ship known throughout the galaxy as the Enterprise. Of course, he's not the real George Lowther, and neither was the man before him, a fellow called Chris Pike. They're in the process of trading the identity, so Pike can retire, having made his fortune. The new Lowther, real name James T. Kirk, has hired on a crew, and they're off on their first voyage, affiliated with the Federation of Interstellar Pirates.
So. How's the crew doing? And, of course, who's fucking?

I hate that fucker. Oh, I let you catch me. So to speak.
You gonna be alright to see this through? If you need to duck out early we'll manage, I can give you the info for our new home if you need to make your disapearance early.
Thank you! We'll cross check it.

Me too. You couldn't help wanting me to catch you. So to speak.
I'll be fine. But we'll have to speed things up a bit. I want you to actually be there when she's born.
Good. Let me know if you need more, I'm doing some more digging now.

It's not like that, I have contacts on the other side, we were going to stage a capture, I have a friend whose a pirate hunter who was going to take us both in, then we were going to give the fleet a proper and giant fuck you and escape. We'd put Lowther to rest and it would clear the air so you could come out as yourself. So you wouldn't have to hide behind the name like I did.

And when was I going to find out?

The plan was to take us in 6 months, I was going to tell you by month 5. I wasn't going to do it without you having a say, I swear to you.
And this is the list of currently alive fleet moles past and present, first thing we do is cross check this:

Fuck you.
If I had known I'd never have agreed to take this stupid job.
Fine. I'll get on that. Why don't you go work on ways to turn me over to more mortal enemies?

Can't lie there, I've been making passes at you since we met after all.
Well, considering Jim's currently pissed all to hell at me over it there's a chance it won't even happen. But whatever we do I'll be there with you when she's born. We'll work it out.
I'll let you know if we get a hit, otherwise pass us everything you can.

So I noticed.
What's he whining about now? Good. It's the sort of thing you should witness.
Working on it.

I did this for you, so you could have a real chance to do good instead of being an folk tale.
It's not about turning us over, it's about using their own system against them. It's two people, both of whom I trust with my life, who I have trusted time and again, and that's it. No one else has any idea and one of them doesn't even know the full game.

I'm subtle like that.
He checked records once I alerted to the mole and he noticed my suspicious messaging habits. He thinks it's a betrayal, on some level maybe it is a little. I"m trying to explain but he's not taking it well.
i intend to be there, no matter what.

Subtle like a punch in the face.
Smart move for such a dumb kid.

Oh yes. As if I didn't like you before you had to have a nice left hook too.
Kid's a damn genius. I knew I'd have to fill him in a bit eventually.

Like Saint George kill himself for me? I don't want this. I never wanted this. I wanted you to be fucking proud of me. And I don't even get to deserve the name you promised me, you TWAT.
You're a big fan of keeping people in the dark, aren't you? Which one of them is the women you're running off with?

You really are. I love you.
Hey, no one's perfect. I should've been more open with him, he should've been in since the beginning. But he wasn't ready, hell, he's still not quite there. This isn't how it was supposed to go.

Love you too, darling.
There seem to be a lot of monkey wrenches in our works.

I am proud of you, that's part of why I wanted to do this, so you wouldn't have to pretend to be anyone but yourself. Lowther's a legend, but it's not real, and that's not what anyone needs, it's not what you need, this was my way of fixing that. You're better than to have to hide behind the lie.
Sort of been my trade the last 12 years. Yeah, one's her. She's fleet, she's the one who tipped me off about the spy.

And our baby. I can't believe we're really having a child.
Yes. Which I hate. This was supposed to go smooth.

I know what you mean. I can barely believe it myself.
Nothing ever goes smoothly. You should know that by now.

I never really thought I'd get the chance.
Some times they do! Alright, not big things, but it was my last stand and we were going to ride into the sunset and Jim was going to find himself and be brave and brilliant.

Me either.
No, the big things never go smoothly. But it could still end well, you'll see.
