Those of you who are familiar with the TOS episodes might remember the fantastic episode in which the Enterprise comes across a planet with 1920s gangster culture.
So, in gentle reboot fashion, Our Heroes are toddling along, being Heroes and Righting Wrongs and whatnot when they encounter a planet identical to Earth was. In 1969.
Why 1969? Well, my friends. 69 makes me giggle.
Also, 1969 had a lot of important events.
January 20 – Richard Milhous Nixon succeeds Lyndon Baines Johnson as the 37th President of the United States of America.
January 30 – The Beatles give their last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records.
April 4 – Dr. Denton Cooley implants the first temporary artificial heart.
June 3- British singer Elton John releases his first album, Empty Sky, in the United Kingdom
June 28 – The Stonewall riots in New York City mark the start of the modern gay rights movement in the U.S.
July 20 – Apollo program: The lunar module Eagle lands on the lunar surface. Neil Armstrong takes his first steps on the Moon.
August 9 – Members of a cult led by Charles Manson murder Sharon Tate, (who was 8 months pregnant), and her friends.
September 2 – The first automatic teller machine in the United States is installed in Rockville Centre, New York.
October 5 – Monty Python's Flying Circus first airs on BBC One.
November 10 – Sesame Street premieres on the National Educational Television (NET) network.
November 15 – Regular colour television broadcasts begin on BBC1 and ITV in UK.
December 1 – Vietnam War: The first draft lottery in the United States is held since World War II.
This was also the year that Women were allowed into the FFA and HIV first hit the United States.
Look at all that. So much that we take for granted. Imagine (all the people? Living side by side?) what a year like that would look like 300 years after, rather than 40. What amuses people, what horrifies them? And what just plain confuses them?

Just think, we could go out together again. You and me.
Hey, hey. Don't worry about me, I made it and I'm here. There's some technology they're piloting, I might even get my legs back. And I don't want another 15 years apart.

Yeah right. You're an old man, they'd never give you a ship now. We could get a shuttle though. Or a freighter. Lucy graduates this year, Benji's only got a couple years left. Hell, we wouldn't even have to run freight. We could just go out and explore, we could go wherever we wanted.
I know, but Chris, you scared me. I've never been so terrified in my life as the minute Number One called me and said you'd been hurt. I thought I'd lost you, for good.

You're not that much younger than me, whippersnapper. But I love that idea. We're both sitting on some nice pensions, aren't we?
I'm sorry, Tony. I'll never scare you again. You should know- when I was on that ship, I thought I was going to die there. I thought it was over. But I um. I thought of never telling you how I felt. And I knew my time wasn't up. I had more to do, and it was with you.

I know there has been a recent rumor that I'm in a relationship with a crewmember. This is true. What's also true is that Starfleet command doesn't believe it's officers are capable of handling their own personal lives and has denied our marriage request without even a second glance. And when another relationship came to light they liked that even less. They intend to investigate both relationships and the running of this ship and I am going to fight it. We've all served together almost a year now, and I have time and time again been impressed by this crew and every single person's intelligence and dedication to this mission and I don't believe for a second that any of you merit the type of watchdog policing that is the current policy on fraternization. I believe it's time Starfleet changed it's policy and that's why I'm fighting this. I don't want to have to lie anymore about the person I love and I don't believe anyone else should be forced to either.
I would like to ask for your support in this. Look around you at your fellow crewmembers for a moment. Would you want to tell them they can't be with the person they loved? I don't. I can't anymore. I know that asking your support in this is a lot. But I hope that any crew member who has been effected by the issue at hand or knows someone who has or who believes that it's high time we stopped telling people who to love will help support this fight.
In light of the inquiry I also I ask that anyone who has been forced to hide a relationship because of chain of command issues come forward and admit that relationship before the investigation of this ship begins. You can contact me privately and it does not have to become public knowledge, but I can tell you now that Command will find out on it's own even if you don't come forward now. I know this is a lot to ask. But coming forward and being prepared before the inquiry is best for this ship. I don't want to lose a single one of you from my crew. I want to stand united and ready when Command comes in to tear apart our family.

"effected" should be "affected." And I believe you forgot to name the crewmember you're in a relationship with.

Hey, no, you've got at least half a decade on me. I'm still young and spry.
Well I'm glad you didn't. I don't think I could have handled losing you. It was hard enough when you were on the other end of the galaxy, at least you were still alive. And I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to visiting you when you were in the hospital. I knew Number One was visiting you regularly and I thought. Well. She and Mia hadn't announced their engagement yet.

I totally had that right and then changed it. I always do that. Damn.
Wasn't sure you wanted to be outed like that. Wanted to be sure. But i'll make the change. :)

Mmm, you aren't as young as you think you are, but I love you anyway.
It doesn't matter how long it took. It matters that you're here now, and you love me and you help me deal with all of this and even if I never walk again, you'll still dance with me at our wedding.
Life isn't ever going to be perfect. But this, my love, is as good as it gets.

I know you do. And I always correct you.
It'll come out anyway. At least this way, we have some control over it.

You're only as young as you feel. And I feel pretty damn young.
I'll always dance with you, Chris.
Well, it's pretty good.

Yes, you do. I like feeling how young you are.
Even if I'm in the chair? Will you still love me if I can't walk?
I'm happy.

Chest hair and all?
Chris, I loved you fifteen years ago when you were a cocky young captain, I love you now when you're a cocky old admiral, and I'll still love you in fifteen years when you're a cocky old man. Legs or no legs. I love you.
