startrek_diaryRight, SO. It has been a harrowing three months for our guys. There've been ENTRANCE EXAMS and trying to make living arrangements and trying to keep up with each other even though ultimately a lot of them are going their seperate ways and STRESS (zzzz) and now... it is September. Today is the last day of Starfleet Academy's orientation week, and classes start tomorrow.
The new freshman are anxious to get started. The suspense hangs in the air.
And nearby, at HQ, Pike is cross. Why is he cross? Because Starfleet wants to do a thorough investigation into the time travel that occured several months ago on the Enterprise. This will take a while and they've delayed the launch (again...) indefinitely.
Poor Pike.

Again. They want to 'do a thorough investigation' of the training run incident. Because the first review was clearly so incomplete. And it's not like we kept TI completely informed while it was occurring or anything.
What's really going on is they're betting Cait's team hits a breakthrough within the next 3 months is what. And if they put us off they can then have Enterprise with the shiny new better warp drive right away-even if it takes a year. Or three. Because clearly just letting us go and do our jobs and then upgrading during a refit is just unheard of.

Lame. Though much of their report came from a person who in this timeline is only eight years old, so I can't really blame them for wanting to check themselves. Still, it's been three months and they've got time before October, they could have already done that.
Poor Cait. They're working her too hard. They've been on her case for months to develope the new system NOW NOW RIGHT NOW and she can only work so fast.
So what are you going to do in the meantime? You already gave up your job at EA and Jon's already replaced you.

Beyond lame. The first debriefing was still achingly complete. There's nothing more to be found unless TI intends to go pop over and visit Lucy. It's a waste of time and I said that much.
I know, and she's yelled them down more once but command does hate the word no. Their latest data is looking...well, beyond promising, so I can see why they want to hold out another few months even if I don't particularly like what it means for my ship.
There's a convient opening at the academy that Barnett was ever so kind to point out. Someone's been planning this. It is a nice spot though, no reason not to take it.

Oh, how I'm trying. But I have less leverage since I'm not active. If I was still out I could give them hell and a half. Stuck here...I've got to get creative and politic a bit more.
If they ever give us a launch date again I may haggle with her. But I think she's a bit too happy doing development though. Last time I brought it up I believe her exact words were 'the brass is twice as annoying but no one ruins my poor engines by getting them shot all to hell' and then gave me a very pointed look.
