Challenge: Comfort Zone
Sep. 8th, 2009 08:02 amSo, as
kittyjimjams pointed out to me, we all have a character we play more often than others. Some of us are deeply possessive of these characters, and have our own, deeply involved canon for them.
(Example: Me and McKenna - from one line of movie dialogue and this comm, I've created a character with a whole life in my head.)
Your challenge for this game? Don't play that character. (I can't play McKenna, 6 can't play Kyle, Bubbles can't play Giotto, etc.)
So, here is our scenario:
Directly post-STXI, the crew has a long journey ahead of them. They've been together for like, 48 hours, and now they have to limp home to Earth on impulse. It's going to take at least a week.
What do they do for fun? Who talks to whom? How do they deal with the deaths of their classmates and Engineer Olsen and the Vulcans? What kind of power dynamic is playing between Pike, Spock and Kirk? And of course, the age old STXI question: What happened to Gaila?
Lets see some personal logs, some comms, and a letter home or two, yeah?
This does not mean we're abandoning the HSAU. I just thought we could use a break for a new game before we get in there and finish the school year. And I thought where we are would be a good resting place - there's enough in the air to be interesting when we come back, and enough resolved to not feel like we're abandoning out characters. If I'm wrong, tell me.
EDIT: Beware, this is a relationship chart of what we have as of Page 17. It's going to get WACKY in there.

Gentlemen, will you please join me in my quarters for dinner this evening? I'd like to have a bit of a captain's conference.

I never got the chance to thank you for saving my life, and Kirk's. Do you want to go to the Rec Room and I'll buy you a drink?
(a soda, or something, I know you're underage, although I could spike it for you if you prefer)

I will be in attendance, and thank you for your invitation. Is there a topic in particular you desire to discuss?

Several, actually.
Not least of all, I need to make a report to Starfleet Command. Seeing as I was playing "hide the brain slug" with some Romulans for most of the mission, I need your help to do this.

That is very kind of you! I would love to meet you. I can be there within the hour. I just need to shower, as I have been exercising. I can comm you when I am ready?
(A soda will be fine, and it will depend on what you plan on spiking it with.)

Hey, Caz, how's the lungworms?

Have you seen this new Engineering guy? Is he hot? I canNOT believe I'm still confined to quarters! McCoy's not worried about overcrowding, he's totally scared of my pheromones, and I'm sorry but that is just speciesist. I would never have had this problem with poor Dr Puri.

Right! Uh, actually I might need more than an hour, I wasn't expecting such a fast reply. Can we make it 1900 hours? We should get something to eat, too, or I'll get wasted on one beer. I don't need to look any stupider than I already have on this ship.
(I'd say vodka but I don't know, is that a really crass assumption?)

Ghastly. I coughed up a worm as thick as a pencil last night. Aren't you glad you asked?
How's everyone holding up out there? Being in quarantine sucks. I haven't seen anyone but Nurse Chapel in days. The reports haven't come in yet and I don't even know if everyone's still alive. What's going on?

By 'new Engineering guy,' do you mean
the crazy stowaway Kirk sneaked aboardLieutenant Commander Scott? I think our taste differs, Gaila, and he was soaking wet and kind of looked like a drowned rat last I saw him.I'm sorry you've been confined. I don't think it'll do any good, but I'll bring it up with Christine and see if she can get it lifted.

Delightful. That'll teach you to let Kev challenge you to one of his "is this edible?" contests. It's never edible. Never.
They let that Sulu kid pilot. He's okay. No you.
We lost a few - about 20 in the Romulan strike. Probably 150 other injuries, but no one I really knew. The other ships were not so lucky. Have they told you anything at all?

Oh, Nyota, you're a doll, I'd so love that. I'm all healed now, not even any scar tissue - I just need someone to give me the all-clear and I can get back onto fixing up this poor baby ship.
Is Jimmy really the Captain now? Do you think you'll fuck him? I mean I know you and Spock are all "monogamous" whatever, but don't you think he deserves it now?

If Sulu got the ship through whatever was going on out there, he can't be that bad. I guess I owe him a drink or something after this.
They haven't told me anything. I was delirious until yesterday, anyway. What happened to the fleet, Johnny?

Christine, I know you must be busy in there, so don't worry about this until things have settled down a bit, but I was hoping I could ask you for a favor. Dr. McCoy's confined Ensign Gaila to quarters, and I'm not sure why. Could you check to make sure it's absolutely necessary?
I normally wouldn't bother you about this sort of thing, but she was my roommate at the Academy, and I feel sort of obliged.
I hope you're all right in there. Are there still a lot of injured?

He scraped a little paint off the hull, but we came through.
And we're the only ones who did. I'm sorry, Caz. Ships are en route from the Laurentian system to start rescue attempts. But every other ship - the Farragut, the Hood, all of them - were destroyed over Vulcan.
We're the only ones left.
Vulcan is gone, too. The whole fucking planet. It's surreal.
I know Bosworth was on the Hood. I'm really, really sorry.

Hey, I gotta have dinner with Pike and Spock tonight. Looks like we'll have to reschedule our date.

You too.
Tell Ricky that I'm sorry about punching him. Desperate times. I'm just glad it wasn't you.

I take it I'm forgiven for letting them maroon you, then?
I shouldn't have.
Ricky'll get over it. He has the kind of face that just leaps in front of people's fists, you know? Worst luck I've ever seen.
If you have time after your meeting...

I'll what I can do about. We're still getting through the injuries but the absolute worst of it is over. I'm on a food break at the moment. I've barely left sickbay since we took off.
I'm fine if a little tired, and we haven't lost anyone in 16 hours. How's the rest of the ship doing?

Hey, to be fair, I wasn't supposed to be on the ship and I shouldn't have been running around punching people. If they hadn't marooned me, I wouldn't have gotten Scotty here, and Spock and I would have both bit it with the Romulans.
I always have time for you.

Stop avoiding me. Sickbay isn't that big. We kissed in an emergency, it happens and I'll get over it. I'm sorry I did it, you just smell so go... oh fuck.
