In the world you are entering, there is a Federation. There is an Enterprise. There is even a Captain Kirk.
But in this world, they are not as you know them.
George Lowther, 27, is the captain of the pirate ship known throughout the galaxy as the Enterprise. Of course, he's not the real George Lowther, and neither was the man before him, a fellow called Chris Pike. They're in the process of trading the identity, so Pike can retire, having made his fortune. The new Lowther, real name James T. Kirk, has hired on a crew, and they're off on their first voyage, affiliated with the Federation of Interstellar Pirates.
So. How's the crew doing? And, of course, who's fucking?

Scotty is asking for advice on taking you on a date. Anything you'd like me to pass along?

A date? Not really. I don't have anything specific that I expect.

Sure, because I just decided to work for the fucking system I've been fighting for the past 30 years. I may be a liar but I'm not fucking traitor. Grow up.
I've requested her assistance, we'll see if she shows, either get a decent excuse to be down here too that won't tip her off or watch the feed a room over and come in when she slips up.

I know it's late but if you're still up awhile I'd like to talk a bit. Just to clear up a few things. It shouldn't take long.

Oh. Alright. Where would you like to speak?

Thank you. I'm in my office right now if that's alright.

I'm on my way. What did you need to speak to me about?

Great. A few things about today, and a little about yourself if that's not too much to ask.

Like what?

I would like to clear the air a bit, I don't expect you to tell me everything but it'd be good to get the conversation going if this is going to be your home.

Fine. I'll talk with you. But you and the captain are really deluded if you think a pack of pirates is going to come together and form some kind of big happy family.

I appreciate it. You didn't get a chance to speak with any of the last crew did you? I suppose not, most ran off to the next adventure or retirement. Just because we're pirates doesn't mean we can't have family. George knows what he's doing, and his way works.

No, I didn't. Does he now? I suppose I have to believe you. His reputation certainly couldn't have invented itself.

It's too bad, they could've given great testimony. That it didn't. He lives up to it and you'll see as time goes on.

Is there anyone on this ship who's served with him before? It seems strange that he'd be willing to pick up a whole new crew. I suppose I will.

Not besides myself. It is a bit unusual, but contracts were up, everyone got a nice fat take and George wanted to try something different. Half the old crew was getting on in years anyway, I think he wanted a crew that might last him a bit longer. This is the most wanted ship and George knows that better than anyone, letting old friends go on their own ways makes their lives a little bit safer.

I was surprised when I met him. Captain Lowther is so young. What is he? Maybe a year or two older than me? Considering his reputation, I had expected someone quite a bit older.

He's a bit older than he looks, but no, he's not too old. He's done a lot in his time, it's rather impressive, he's just one of those types who hits the ground running. He's managed more already than some will in their lives.

I suppose so. How long have you served under him? The two of you must be quite close if he kept you on.

Several years, we work well together so he convinced me to hang on a bit longer while he settles with this crew. Extra bit of insurance I suppose.

He's the most wanted man in the quadrant, he didn't get that way by not knowing when to watch his back. Big crew like this you have to handle properly, he wouldn't mind diving in, but he knows it's better to ease in when there are this many variables.

Well, that was sweet of you to put off retirement for him.

Eh, it's just a few more months, not like he needs me for long. I like the idea of one last run before I settle anyway.
