Side Game: Dystopia

In the world you are entering, there is a Federation. There is an Enterprise. There is even a Captain Kirk.

But in this world, they are not as you know them.

George Lowther, 27, is the captain of the pirate ship known throughout the galaxy as the Enterprise. Of course, he's not the real George Lowther, and neither was the man before him, a fellow called Chris Pike. They're in the process of trading the identity, so Pike can retire, having made his fortune. The new Lowther, real name James T. Kirk, has hired on a crew, and they're off on their first voyage, affiliated with the Federation of Interstellar Pirates.

So. How's the crew doing? And, of course, who's fucking?

Yes, not being around you namely.

I'll try. But I'm not doing it because you told me to.

Shocking. You actually care?

Well. You deserve it.

Why? It's not like you love her.

You've had a lot of good turns, you want me to feel sorry that you're stuck with me?

We still on for dinner?

Yep. It's in my job description. Here, I'll quote it for you:

"Janice Rand's official position on the grand pirate ship Enterprise is to make sure that George Lowther (and his entire crew) knows he is an idiot and that no one likes him at all times."

She's still a friend, and I witnessed some of the hell she went through back then.

I'm not stuck with you nor do I object to that point. I just object to the idea that I deserve the universe's hate.

Go find something shiny to stare at instead.

Yeah, yeah we can still do dinner.

You don't have to remember writing it to make it true.

No snappy retort? Are you sure you're feeling alright? Maybe you should get Doctor McCoy to look at you again?

No one. It's an old wound. Just flares up on occasion.

Look, I don't love my mother and I don't feel bad about it. She never did anything that needed doing. Not for me. And yet, at the same time, I look at Pike sometimes and I think of a world, a Universe where he married my mom and they raised me and I was well-adjusted. I tend to get a little morose about it. Now, go to your thing. I have a dinner.
