Side Game: Dystopia

In the world you are entering, there is a Federation. There is an Enterprise. There is even a Captain Kirk.

But in this world, they are not as you know them.

George Lowther, 27, is the captain of the pirate ship known throughout the galaxy as the Enterprise. Of course, he's not the real George Lowther, and neither was the man before him, a fellow called Chris Pike. They're in the process of trading the identity, so Pike can retire, having made his fortune. The new Lowther, real name James T. Kirk, has hired on a crew, and they're off on their first voyage, affiliated with the Federation of Interstellar Pirates.

So. How's the crew doing? And, of course, who's fucking?

Right. I wouldn't ask you to and neither will she. Don't worry about it.

Noted. Though you may luck out and be the type kids just like for no reason, I wouldn't be surprised.

This is hard why couldn't you just marry my mom and make it official? Why someone else?

I am going to be the fun one. You're going to be all "Don't do that!" and "Don't put that in there!" and "Here's a coloring book about things you shouldn't do, try to stay in the lines!" and I'm gonna help it eat dirt and paint it's self orange and at so much sugar it pukes. It's gonna like me so much more than you.

Your mom and I tried but it didn't work. Would've made things simple if it had but nothing ever is.

Yes, you're going to be a terrible influence on my child. That I don't doubt. BUt I'm it's dad so it's going to like me more.

You did? When? Why didn't I know that?

No, I'm going to be an AWESOME influence on your kid and it will like me more than you because I'll tell better bedtime stories and am prettier.

You were little, about 2. It wasn't for too long, we get a bit too pissy at each other without someone mediating as it turns out. Agreed it'd be better if we didn't try to push things.

Terrible influence. Completely and utterly terrible. You're going to corrupt my child.

I wish I'd have known that. I wish she'd told me. I

I thought you never came around because you didn't like me. I wasn't enough like Saint George, or something. But she's the one who chased you away?

You're going to be grateful when I do. It will wear awesome leather baby pants and a studded pacifier and call you daddy-o. Best baby ever.

We pushed each other away. We needed space, put us together for too long and it all becomes about George and that's not what anyone needed. We brought up too many ghosts for each other.

I didn't come around because out being an idiot pirate and I didn't want to step on Winona's toes. I came when I could, I worried about you boys. But I also didn't really know what I was doing.

You are so not allowed near my child with close supervision.

I'm trying really hard to not make this All Her Fault, and having a hell of a time. Can't imagine you pushing anyone away.

Neither did she.

Whatever, that's my little brother, I get to fuck with it if I want to.

I ran off back to space, it's the same thing.

No one did back then.

You will be nice to your little brother or sister. Though you can help scaring away potential suitors when it starts dating.

She didn't even try, did she? Just handed you your backs and married Frank. Great parenting there.

She wasn't trying.

I will be super nice. Which is why he'll like me more. And he's not allowed to date. Kirk's don't date, we seduce.

It was never going to work with us Jim. It wouldn't have mattered.

She was lost, it's not that simple.

You'd better be. My child is not allowed to seduce anyone until it is 30.

It matters to me. She had the chance to be with someone who loved her boys, who wanted us to be happy. And she chose Frank.

It's exactly that simple. She had choices. She never made any.

30? Isn't that a little young?

A chance that didn't work out. We couldn't make it work, and I'm not saying what ended up happening was better by any means because it sure as hell wasn't, but neither of us could put ourselves through it at the time. With me there she couldn't get away from George's memory. I thought if I left the picture long enough she'd be able to work herself out.

Perfectly good age. But no dating sex or seduction until then.

And she didn't. She hasn't ever gotten away from his ghost. I'm like fucking Hamlet without anything to say. And nothing to show but some awesome scars and the tendency to flinch if someone touches me.

I know, It's not fair and none of us thought it would play out like this. I would have done something sooner if I'd known. Your mother failed you. But that's not the end of things, you've come a long way already.

I tried to tell you. Was never any good, but I tried. I've come this far because you're here. What if I come all unraveled when you leave?

You're not going to come unraveled. And if you do you pick yourself and keep going. You know how to do this, you don't need to rely on me anymore. You just need to trust yourself a little.

You will be fine, more than fine. You're more than capable. I bet after a year on your own you won't. Having me around holds you back.
